Carex houghtoniana, commonly known as Houghton's Sedge, is a native North American sedge species that belongs to the Cyperaceae family. This sedge is part of the Paludosae section, which can be identified by rhizomatous colonies, typically hairless leaves, and fiberous purple to red basal sheaths. Houghton's Sedge can be differentiated by residing in disturbed sandy, gravelly, and rocky soil.
Native Range:
Houghton's Sedge is found in the Northern United States from Maine to Minnesota, and dipping down into Illinois.
