Viburnum rafinesquianum

Common Name: Downy Arrow-wood

Downy Arrow-wood is a medium-sized shrub reaching 6 to 10 feet tall, often found in dry woodlands as an understory plant in Minnesota. It has opposite, toothed leaves with a downy underside, clusters of small white flowers in late spring, and dark blue fruits in fall. This shrub provides excellent nesting cover and food for birds and small mammals. It is a great choice for native shrub borders, dry woodland gardens, and erosion control.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
