Thuja occidentalis
Common Name: White Cedar
White Cedar is a long-lived, aromatic evergreen tree that typically grows 40 to 80 feet tall and is found in swamps, bogs, and cool, moist forests in northeastern Minnesota. It has scale-like foliage in flattened sprays and produces small cones. The bark is reddish and peels in strips. White Cedar is valuable in windbreaks, hedges, and naturalized plantings for its year-round cover and tolerance of wet soils. It also provides critical winter shelter for wildlife, especially deer.
