Symphoricarpos albus

Common Name: Snowberry

Snowberry is a small deciduous shrub growing 1 to 3 feet tall, common in open woods, thickets, and rocky slopes across Minnesota. It features small pinkish-white flowers in early summer followed by distinctive white berries that persist into winter, providing food for birds. Though mildly toxic to humans, the berries add winter interest. Snowberry is well-suited to erosion control on slopes, woodland edges, and restoration plantings due to its dense, spreading growth and adaptability to different soils.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
