Spiraea tomentosa

Common Name: Steeplebush

Steeplebush is an upright, clump-forming shrub typically growing 2 to 4 feet tall and found in moist meadows, bogs, and wetland edges in eastern Minnesota. It blooms in mid to late summer with dense, narrow spikes of rosy-pink flowers that are highly attractive to pollinators. Its stems and leaves are covered in fine hairs, giving the plant a soft texture. Steeplebush is an excellent choice for rain gardens, shoreline plantings, and other moist native landscapes where it adds color and ecological value.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
