Rhododendron groenlandicum

Common Name: Labrador Tea

Labrador Tea is a low, evergreen shrub found in bogs, conifer swamps, and other peat-based wetlands across northern Minnesota. It grows 1 to 3 feet tall and features leathery, aromatic leaves with a woolly underside and clusters of white flowers in spring. Traditionally used by Indigenous peoples as an herbal tea (though it must be used with caution due to toxicity in large amounts). In landscaping, it's suitable for peat gardens and natural bog restorations.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
