Quercus alba

Common Name: White Oak

White Oak is a majestic, long-lived tree reaching 60 to 100 feet tall with a broad, rounded crown. It occurs in dry to mesic upland forests, particularly in southeastern and central Minnesota. Its deeply lobed leaves turn rich red and burgundy in fall, and its acorns provide critical food for wildlife. Highly valued for timber and ecological importance, it is also a beautiful shade tree in parks and large yards. Its deep taproot makes it drought-tolerant once established.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
