Common Name: American Plum

American Plum is a small, thicket-forming tree or large shrub growing 10 to 25 feet tall. It produces fragrant white flowers in spring and edible red plum fruit in summer. It is found in woodland edges, savannas, and roadsides throughout Minnesota. It provides excellent habitat and food for pollinators and birds. In landscapes, it is valued for hedgerows, wildlife plantings, and as a native ornamental for its spring bloom and fall color.
