Populus tremuloides

Common Name: Quaking Aspen

Quaking Aspen is one of the most widely distributed native trees in North America and reaches 60 to 100 feet tall. It thrives in a wide range of habitats, from upland woods to moist lowlands. The fluttering leaves, smooth pale bark, and yellowish orange fall color make this a popular tree. It also is known to form large colonies which spread by underground root systems. In landscaping, it is used for naturalistic plantings and fast cover, although it can be aggressive due to its suckering growth.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
