Populus grandidentata

Common Name: Big-toothed Aspen

Big-toothed Aspen is a fast-growing, short-lived tree that reaches 50 to 95 feet tall. It is typically found in dry to mesic upland forests and clearings. The leaves have large, rounded teeth and tremble in the wind, similar to Quaking Aspen. Also, like Quaking Aspen, this species spreads by underground root runners, forming colonies, although smaller colonies than Quaking Aspen. This tree provides important cover and forage for wildlife and is used in early successional plantings or naturalistic landscapes where fast growth is desired.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
