Pinus banksiana

Common Name: Jack Pine

Jack Pine is a rugged, fire-adapted evergreen tree that grows 30 to 100 feet tall and thrives in dry, sandy soils. It is found in pine barrens, dry forests, and savannas across Minnesota. Its irregular form and openness make it less ornamental, but it's critical for reforestation, dune stabilization, and wildlife habitat. It works well in dry, nutrient-poor landscapes.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
