Osmunda claytoniana
Common Name: Interrupted Fern
Interrupted Fern is a striking deciduous fern that grows 2-4 feet tall with large, arching fronds. It is named for the distinctive gap, or "interruption," in the frond where fertile leaflets develop in the middle of the frond before withering away. This fern thrives in moist forests, shaded wetlands, and along swamp edges. It is useful for erosion control and as an accent plant in shaded gardens, rain gardens, and naturalized areas.
