Diervilla lonicera

Common Name: Bush Honeysuckle

Bush Honeysuckle is a low, suckering shrub reaching 1 to 3 feet tall and spreading widely. It grows in dry woods, rocky slopes, and open forests. Small yellow flowers appear in early summer, followed by red-tinged foliage in fall. It’s a great ground cover for erosion-prone slopes or shady areas, and it supports pollinators and beneficial insects. Often used in mass plantings or as a low hedge.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
