Corylus americana

Common Name: American Hazelnut

American Hazelnut is a fast-growing, multi-stemmed shrub reaching 4 to 16 feet tall and wide. Found in woodlands, thickets, and forest edges, it produces edible nuts in late summer that are favored by wildlife and people alike. The broad leaves turn a vibrant orange to red in fall, adding seasonal interest. Its dense growth habit makes it excellent for natural screens, hedgerows, and habitat plantings.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
