Meadow Garlic
Allium canadense
Allium canadense, commonly called Meadow Garlic or Wild Onion, is a perennial plant that grows 1 to 2 feet tall. It has slender, grass-like leaves and produces clusters of small, star-shaped white to pinkish flowers in late spring to early summer. This species is found in meadows, open woodlands, rocky outcrops and along stream banks, favoring moist, well-drained soils. Traditionally, its bulbs and leaves were used as food and for medicinal purposes by Indigenous peoples. In landscaping, Meadow Garlic is valued for its edible qualities and ability to naturalize in garden settings.
