Viburnum trilobum

Common Name: American Highbush Cranberry

American Highbush Cranberry is a large, multi-stemmed shrub that grows 8 to 15 feet tall. Native to wet thickets, woodland edges, and streambanks, it features showy white flower clusters in late spring and bright red berries in fall that persist into winter. Its maple-like leaves provide attractive fall color. Although the berries are tart, they are sometimes used in jams and attract wildlife. It is a strong choice for hedgerows, rain gardens, and wetland buffer zones.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
