Viburnum lentago

Common Name: Nannyberry

Nannyberry is a tall, suckering shrub or small tree growing 10 to 25 feet tall, found in woodlands, thickets, and shorelines throughout Minnesota. It produces creamy white, fragrant flower clusters in spring, followed by blue-black berries in fall that are edible and attractive to birds. The glossy leaves turn reddish-purple in fall. Nannyberry is well-suited for wildlife plantings, hedgerows, and naturalized screens due to its adaptability and multi-season interest.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
