Common Name: Red Pine

Red Pine, also known as Norway Pine, is Minnesota’s state tree. It typically grows 60 to 120 feet tall with a straight trunk and conical crown. It is native to dry, sandy uplands and ridges in northern and central Minnesota. Red Pine is valued for timber production and is widely planted in reforestation projects. In the landscape, it is best suited for large properties or naturalistic plantings and does well as a windbreak or privacy screen.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
