Antennaria neglecta
Common Name: Field Pussytoes
Antennaria neglecta, commonly known as Field Pussytoes, is a low-growing perennial that typically reaches heights of 4 to 16 inches. It forms dense mats of soft, silvery basal leaves and produces clusters of small, white to pale pink, tufted flowers resembling cats' feet from April to June. This species thrives in dry prairies, open woods, and savannas, preferring well-drained sandy or loamy soils. Field Pussytoes are excellent for rock gardens and as groundcover in dry areas, valued for their drought tolerance and ability to stabilize soil. They also serve as a host plant for the American Lady butterfly, supporting local pollinator populations.
