Common Name: Autumn Willow

Autumn Willow is a tall shrub or small tree that can reach 3 to 10 feet in height. It is typically found in calcareous fens, wet sedge meadows, and swamps, particularly in northern and central Minnesota. It is named for its tendency to hold onto its leaves late into the fall. A species of conservation concern in some areas, it plays a key role in fen and wetland ecosystems. Autumn Willow is primarily used in specialized habitat restorations where calcareous wet conditions persist.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
