Corylus cornuta

Common Name: Beaked Hazelnut

Beaked Hazelnut is a medium-sized shrub, growing 12 to 20 feet tall, known for its elongated, beak-like nut husks. It occurs in woodlands, forest edges, and rocky slopes. Like its relative, it provides food and cover for birds and mammals. The nuts are edible and were historically used by Indigenous peoples. Beaked Hazelnut is useful in native woodland restorations and naturalized shade gardens.

Planting Information

Dig a hole in your planting site slightly larger than the plant’s root system. When placing the plant into the hole, ensure that the soil line remains consistent with its original level in the pot. Fill in around the roots with the excavated soil, gently firming it to eliminate air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly the same day to promote successful establishment.
