Beautiful native plant communities once dominated this area of the Upper Midwest. Due to the unstoppable forces of progress and development, most of these natural areas have been seriously degraded or eradicated altogether. But it is now possible to recover some of these beautiful natural elements that are an important part of our natural heritage.
The experienced professionals at Prairie Restorations, Inc. are solely dedicated to the restoration of native plant communities. And they can help you establish a native landscape on your property, whether you are looking to create a small native garden or restore several acres. The beauty that once was our natural heritage can live again.

Design Services and the Importance of Local Origin Native Seed and Plant Materials
“Bring people together with the land” has always been the goal of PRI. We will meet with you, the homeowner, to learn about your vision for the landscape. Following a careful analysis of your site’s ecological characteristics, we will put together a plan based upon both design and ecology. When it comes to installing the project, PRI strives to use only local-origin seed and plant materials so you can be confident that the end result will be both ecologically sound and historically accurate. The vast majority of the materials used on our projects are grown right here at PRI so we can guarantee only the highest quality local origin seeds and plants are used on your project.
“Going Green” Can Be Beautiful as Well as Practical
Whether you have a shoreline to protect from erosion, buckthorn to remove from your woodland, or you simply wish to turn your lawn into a colorful mosaic of prairie grasses and wildflowers, PRI’s design team can suggest an appropriate plan for you. Whatever the situation, it is hard to deny the low-maintenance appeal of native landscapes. Think of all the time you will save by reducing the size of your lawn – less mowing, less watering, less fertilizing. This is also what it means to “Go Green” – conserving water resources, reducing the use of fertilizers and pesticides, limiting the use of polluting lawn mowers. Did you know that mowing your lawn for 1 hour produces the same amount of pollution as driving your car for 350 miles? Native landscapes can also replenish soils, filter pollutants from stormwater, and “lock up” atmospheric carbon, which helps combat global warming. Coupled with the increased habitat for songbirds, butterflies and other wildlife, the argument to “Go Green” with native plants is even stronger.
