When PRI founder and president, Ron Bowen, first dreamed of restoring a prairie, it was 1970. At that time, finding a retail source of grass and wildflower seed was difficult. There were almost none and what few species were available were not of local Minnesota origin. It was obvious that to get the job done right would mean developing new local sources of materials. Oh, what a dream.

It is now 37 years later and today PRI is extremely proud of what it has accomplished. We offer seeds, plants, trees, shrubs, seed mixes, sod flats and more. And, they are not just prairie but include wetland and woodland species from three distinct regions of Minnesota, local genotypes as they are called, and in some pretty good volumes at that. These are the basic building blocks of restoration.
As you look through the products lists that follow, you can be certain that all of these seeds and plants are produced in fields and greenhouses under controlled conditions. We do not collect from the wild except to get the initial populations started.
Our materials have genetic origins primarily from the Princeton area (Anoka Sand Plain), the Moorhead area (the Red River Valley), or from the Duluth area (mixed and boreal forest). We believe that materials origin is extremely important.
Read on to savor the diversity and remember that every successful planting starts with quality seeds and plants. Whether you are looking for a single species, want a custom mix or one of our standard mixes; you can get it at PRI.
