Historically fire played a significant role in the health of natural landscapes---particularly grasslands---by discouraging woody plants and non-native species from taking over. Intentional burning has been a proven management tool for thousands of years, dating back to Native Americans who used fire as a means to attract bison. Unintentional fires, usually started by lightening, often burned for miles and miles, providing similar results.
PRI’S FIRE MANAGEMENT EXPERTISE CANNOT BE CHALLENGED!
It is only in the past 100 years that the term “prescribed burning” has been used in connection with restored native landscapes. Managing large parcels of land through prescribed burning replicates fire’s historic role in providing ecological benefits to fire -dependent plant communities.

Fire restores the health and vigor of native vegetation, reduces weeds and exotics, enhances wildlife habitat, removes biomass cost-effectively, increases plant diversity, releases nutrients vital to new plant growth and reduces the risk of wildfires.
PRI has a proven track record—not one serious accident in more than 2000 burns!
We have conducted safe, successful burns annually on parcels of all types, including private lands, corporate grounds and public sector properties. Burns are typically scheduled in spring or fall. Key ingredients include temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind, wildlife nesting patterns, plant growth cycles, necessary state and local permits and coordination with nearby property owners.
Where there is fire, there is usually politics. PRI will work with local fire officials and the DNR to obtain the necessary burn permits and variances. Our outstanding reputation means that we can normally get permits even if burning restrictions have been issued. Your local fire authority becomes the final and dominant decision maker for each burn. Often times sites will need to be inspected by your fire official before a permit can be issued. Permit fees are also necessary in many communities.
Fire management is not a job for amateurs, but must be in the hands of responsible, experienced, well-trained professionals using safe, modern equipment, including reliable water delivery systems. PRI should be your “go to” company for experienced, successful prescribed burning.
