Prairie Restorations, Inc. (PRI) was founded in 1977, one of the first companies, nationally, devoted exclusively to designing, restoring and managing native prairie plant communities. In three decades we’ve grown from three employees in a single location to a full-time staff of 45 in seven locations throughout Minnesota.

2018 Job Announcements

Position: Site Manager, Lewiston, MN

Main function is to coordinate all services at the site including personnel and quality control. The Site Manager is to ensure that the company meets or exceeds the goals that have been established for the site. This includes sales, client relations, staff management, morale, safety and project implementation and site finances.

The service department is split into two primary work groups, install and land management. Primary duties for install staff are working soil, seeding/planting, and applying erosion control techniques. Land management staff control invasive species, promote establishment of new installs, and perform prescribed burns. Although job duties are often split, there are typically ample opportunities for crossover experiences.

Required Qualifications: An interest in nature/habitats; willingness to work sometimes long/unpredictable hours outside in sometimes adverse conditions; ability to work as part of a team; and comfortable handling herbicides and some small power equipment like weed whips. Must also have a valid driver’s license, an ability to lift 50 lbs. frequently, an ability to obtain MnDOT Health Card and the ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Desired Qualifications: Degree in a biological and/or environmental area; some knowledge/experience with plant identification; experience with large power equipment such as tractor/ATV/skid loader; experience with prescribed burns; and/or experience with a chainsaw.

Position: Project Manager/Management Specialist

Location: Northfield, MN

Description: To implement all management activities, including burning management; from the proposal stage through the permit application process and on to the actual execution of burns. In addition, IPM (Integrated Plant Management) to include herbaceous weed control with spraying and cutting, removal of woody species, embellishment of existing projects with added seed or plants, mulching, blanketing, consultation and management planning.

Required Qualifications: A certified applicators license must be maintained from the State of Minnesota and a health card for driving will be required (both of these items will be coordinated thru and paid for by PRI).

Desired Qualifications: At least some coursework or degree in a biological area; some knowledge/experience with plant identification; experience with large power equipment such as tractor/ATV/skid loader; experience with prescribed burns and chainsaws.
