Many companies such as 3M, Target, Microsoft, General Mills, State Farm Insurance, and Great River Energy have found that the benefits of such landscaping go far beyond their initial desire to beautify their campus and reduce maintenance costs.
Employees and visitors surrounded by scenes of natural beauty can escape the stress of daily life and make a refreshing connection with nature. Studies have even shown that employees are more productive when surrounded by natural areas.
An ecologically sound landscape plan incorporating native vegetation can contribute to the overall soil, water, and air quality of your corporate property. PRI was one of the first companies, nationally, to promote the concept of landscaping with native plants. And over the past 39 years, PRI has had the privilege of working with many corporate clients to design, install and maintain beautiful, evolving native landscapes. Historically authentic plantings using indigenous species result in a diverse and seasonally-changing landscape that, once established, requires far less maintenance than traditional landscapes. Native plant landscapes generally do not require irrigation, fertilizers, or pesticides – as do traditional turf landscapes. And best yet, weekly mowing is a thing of the past.
No matter how large or small your area – from a hundred square feet to hundreds of acres – there is a native landscape appropriate for your property. PRI will conduct a thorough site evaluation to determine your site’s unique ecological characteristics. Coupled with the invaluable input of the client, PRI will create a natural landscape plan that is a blend of both ecology and design. At PRI, we understand that conventional turf landscapes do have their place, and, wherever practical, incorporate these elements into the overall design. From initial design to ongoing maintenance, the native landscaping contractors at PRI can help your business in its efforts to “Go Green.” With several locations in the Midwest, we are proud to serve the businesses of North and South Dakota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota.
This full spectrum healthcare facility sits on 80 acres along the Sauk River just north of St. Cloud, MN. It is essentially a hospital and is, in fact, part of the St. Cloud Hospital network.
PRI crews were responsible for the installation of the entire native landscape, and played a large role in the overall native landscape design. The planted landscape includes about 40 acres of restored prairie and 5 acres of mowed turf. The turf is irrigated, the prairie is not. A one-mile long pedestrian trail loops around the site, set almost entirely within the prairie landscape. In most places the shortest prairie mix was planted adjacent to this trail and also along the interior ring road. Much of the area inside the ring road is conventional turf.
This project has been a great success in many ways. It offers a fantastic economic solution for this site and provides an example of environmental sustainability that naturally complements the health stewardship mission of the facility. The waves of prairie flowers and grasses offer color, diversity and interest for thousands of visitors and employees. The trail is highly used and this landscape is greatly appreciated. PRI crews continue to maintain the landscape on an annual basis.
